NOT MINE - GO CHECK OUT REDDIT FOR MORE INFO
This is for all the people who say Gwyn and Az had no chemistry 😒😒😒 (In no way is any of this hate against Elriel shippers, these are just quotes i've found within ACOSF and the bonus chapter in which i believe could suggest Gwyn and Az are canon)
' Gwyn whispered, "I am the rock against which the surf crashes." Nesta straightened at the words, as if they were a prayer and a summons. Gwyn lifted the blade. "Nothing can break me." — Azriel went wholly still, as if he, too, had felt the shift. As if he, too, were aware that far larger forces peered into that training ring as Gwyn moved. '
They're literally perfect for each other. He's proud of her.
' Something sparked in Azriel's chest, but he only nodded his thanks and left. He could picture it, though, as he ascended the stairs back to the house proper. How Gwyn's teal eyes might light up upon seeing the necklace. For whatever reason ... he could see it. But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. '
Azriel who rarely shows genuine affection to others smiling at the mere thought of Gwyn.
' he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer '
This is just cute as fuck. Also the little mermaid retelling??? (See my other post for more on that ;))
The parallel between Lucien putting his cloak of Elain after she come of of the cauldron and Azriel placing his cloak over Gwyn after he kills the Hybern soldiers (just to clear up i am not romanticising that scene at all! i'm simply pointing out the parallel between the two considering each event was very traumatic for each girl, leading them both to isolation).
Then in the bonus chapter when Az places the necklace around Elain's neck we see him mention his scars e.g. 'Letting his scarred fingers touch her immaculate skin.' and 'Such terrible things that it was a scarilege for his fingers to skin, taunting her with his presence', however, in the same chapter while he teaches Gwyn how to hold the sword he does not mention his scars once. He does not think about his insecurities with Gwyn.
Also it's a common theme with mates in the ACOTAR series for them to be drawn to one another, we see this with Rhys ('Maybe that's why i couldn't keep away'), Cassian ('Because i couldn't stay away'), Lucien ('That was all he wanted-to see Elain only once') and even Elain ('The half step she took towards the stairs-as if to speak to him. Stop him') however with Azriel we see that when when referring to Elain he had been 'keeping away from Elain as much as possible' but with Gwyn he 'found himself at the library beneath the house of wind' (to give her the necklace) and when his shadows do not warn him of her presence at the training ground.
Another untalked about thing is when Cassian talks about Rescuing Nesta from the blood rite and tells Az: '"There are plenty of other unspeakable things that could be happening to her" Cassian said, voice thickening. "To Emerie and Gwyn." The shadows deepened around Azriel, his siphons gleaming like cobalt fire.' After the mention of Gwyn during the blood rite not only did his Shadows react (which have many different theories) but his siphons did too. Personally i believe because he's seen Gwyn be r*ped, Cassian suggesting that it could be happening again has reminded Az of that night (which that night he had acted irrationally, killing multiple soldiers without questioning them) and the shadows and siphons have reflected his hurt/anger whether he's aware of these feelings or not (cause mating bond bitches).
' "Is it following?" "No,but..." Gwyn's swallow was audible. "I can feel something. Like a cat. Small and clever and curious. It's watching." '
- In contrast to - ' His shadows peered over his wings at her. The young priestess smiled—and Azriel thought it might have been directed at his curious shadows. '
Bitch i just know them shadows are spying on Gwyn.
' she had no idea that he had done unspeakable things that sullied his hands far beyond their scars '
- compared to - ' “Azriel slaughtered all of them within moments. He didn’t hesitate.” '
Elain is unaware of his brutal side. Gwyn has seen, heard and accepted it.
Gwyn, in the small time she has known him, has came to trust Azriel. This male who is inevitably associated with her worst memory, who saw her at her lowest, vulnerable and broken. Despite knowing and having seen with her own eyes what he can do, how ruthless he can be, she still sees him as someone worth her trust. She sees him for who he is, not the things he has done. And above all she trusts him. (Quote from @/faiurytale)
' But a wild, wicked voice weaving in between the drumbeats whispered otherwise. Go, that voice said, tugging a me. Go see — '
' "I got there, and i could only smell you. So i tracked that scent, and...And there you were.-" ' (Feysand)
' He aimed for the trading pit — He found it already occupied. His shadows had not warned him. '
' Spent the rest of his day — with every intention of returning it to the shop in the palace of thread of Jewels — He found himself at the library — For whatever reason he could see it. '
The shadows alert him about everything. They warned him before Koschei made a move, you'd think they would warn him if someone was around but they didn't. I believe it's because they can detect the mating bond (can hear and feel things others can't) they are drawn to her, they do not need to be alert around their mate.
In the bonus chapter when we have the scene of Gwyn and Az together at night with no one else around. This is Gwyn's first scene we know of alone with a male. Yet she wasn't uncomfortable, wasn't afraid and more importantly she laughed and talked with Azriel. They enjoy each others company despite neither one of them being the sociable types, both for different reasons. She even gave him an excuse to leave because she knows he likes to be alone, but he didn't take it. He thought about turning back and leaving before seeing whoever was in the pit, but when he saw Gwyn and she openly offered a way out—he decided to stay. He wanted to stay. As did she.
' Gwyn asked Az, her teal eyes bright, "What do we get if we finish the course?" Az's shadows danced around him. "Since there's no chance in hell any of you would finish the course, we didn't bother to get a prize." Boo's sounded. Gwyn lifted her chin in challenge. "We look forward to proving you wrong l." — Gwyn threw Azriel a withering stare as she strode past him. "See you tomorrow, Shadowsinger," she tossed over her shoulder. — Gwyn to push her group harder. She wanted to be the first. Wanted Nesta and Emerie and her to be the ones who wiped the smirks from Azriel's and Cassian's faces. Especially Azriel's. — And when Gwyn reached the finish line, bloody and panting and grinning so wildly her teal eyes glowed like sunlit sea, she only extended her battered hand to Azriel, "Well?" '
TWO WORDS: THE CHEMISTRY
GWYN'S CONFIDENCE, THE FACT THAT THEY CHALLENGE EACH OTHER, JUST THEM.
' Cassian glanced over at Az, but his attention was fixed on the young priestess, admiration and quiet encouragement shining from his face. '
(When Gwyn cut the Ribbon, set after the bonus chapter scene) He's proud that he taught her 😭
' Azriel laughed. "I'll give you that." Gwyn smiled broadly. "Thank you." Azriel dipped his head in a sketch of a bow, something restless settling in him. Even his shadows had calmed. '
The shadows rn: mom???
' Pure amusement glittered in her stare. So he offered her a crooked smile. '
' Gwyn let out a high pitched noise that was nothing but pure excitement. Azriel, on the other side of the ring with the rest of the priestesses, half-turned at the sound, brows high. '
She surprises him, amuses him and yet y'all don't like them 🙄
' Azriel had winnowed her and Cassian here after training, but hadn't lingered. Apparently, Gwyn wanted him to go over dagger handling, so he'd left them with a promise to return in one hour. '
They spend time together in private ^
' She shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. "Do you though?" She pressed. "Sing?" Azriel couldn't help his soft chuckle. "Yes." '
Az openly sharing info about himself???? since when??
' He nodded to Gwyn and Emerie, the former glancing toward Azriel, who watched din silence. '
' Gwyn again glanced to Azriel, who drifted closer. '
These little unnecessary sentences while we're still in Nesta/Cassian POV 😩😩
' Gwyn threw Azriel a withering stare as she strode past him. "See you tomorrow, Shadowsinger," she tossed over a shoulder. Azriel stared after her, brows high in amusement. When he turned back, Nesta grinned. "You have no idea what you just started," she said. Az angled his head, hazel eyes narrowing as Gwyn reached the archway. "Remember how Gwyn was with the ribbon?" Nesta winked and clapped the Shadowsinger on the shoulder. "You're the new ribbon, Az" '
Foreshadowing? (Nesta knows what's up lmao)
In conclusion. Gwynriel.
