The four main market squares of Velaris are called Palaces. There are two on the southern side of the Sidra River and two on the northern side. The Palaces are great, white-stoned squares flanked by pillars supporting the carved and painted buildings above them and provided a covered walkway beneath for the shops built into the street level.
The Palace of Thread and Jewels and the Palace of Bone and Salt sell jewels and food respectively, and are positioned on the southern side of the Sidra River. The Palace of Hoof and Leaf is positioned on the northern side of the Sidra River and is the twin square to the Palace of Bone and Salt. There is a fourth, named Palace also on the northern side of the Sidra River.
