Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Dawn, Day, and Night. The seven Courts of Prythian, each ruled by a High Lord, all of them deadly in their own way.

–The Suriel to Feyre Archeron, A Court of Thorns and Roses

The Spring Court is one of the seven Courts of Prythian and one of the four Seasonal Courts. The High Lord of this Court is Tamlin, who's gifted with great strength and shapeshifting magic to change his form into a beast or the appearances of others.

Geography[]

The Spring Court is a land of rolling green hills, lush forests, and clear, bottomless lakes. Magic didn’t just abound in the bumps and the hollows – it grew there. To the south, the Court borders the Wall and likewise the Mortal Realm. Its northern borders are the Summer Court and the Autumn Court.

While the Spring Court boasts no cities, a large village is located close to the High Lord’s estate, less than five miles away. Most of the village was destroyed due to Amarantha; however, a tavern and a well in the middle of the village had been completely rebuilt.

In the time period of A Court of Frost and Starlight, the Spring Court is described as unkempt and breaking into pieces. The manor is crumbling, hasn't been cleaned, and Tamlin has lost all respect in his own Court. This is Feyre Archeron's doing from when she left and turned the Spring Court against Tamlin.

The manor[]

The manor is described as a sprawling estate veiled in roses and ivy, with patios and balconies and staircases sprouting from its alabaster sides. Amethyst irises and pale snowdrops and butter-yellow daffodils bloom in the balmy breeze of the Spring Court. A grand marble staircase leads to the giant oak doors of the estate. Inside, there are black-and-white checkered marble floors, countless doors, a sweeping staircase and vases overflowing with fat clusters of hydrangea.

History[]

When Prythian was formed, the land was split into seven Courts, the Spring Court being one of them.

During the War, the Spring Court allied with Hybern to keep the humans enslaved. Tamlin's father was High Lord at this time, a fickle and vicious Lord whom was very close to both the King of Hybern and Amarantha. Tamlin as a child often accompanied him on trips to Hybern.

Amarantha eventually grew to desire Tamlin – to lust for him. Tamlin had come across stories from others about the War and knew what Amarantha, his father, and the king had done to faeries and humans alike. Tamlin also learns what she did to Jurian as punishment for her sister’s death. He was wary of her when she came to Prythian as the King of Hybern’s emissary, despite her attempts to lure him into her bed and the attempts to build trade between the two nations. He kept his distance. After his father's death, Tamlin became the High Lord.

When Amarantha began to frequent the Courts of Prythian, the Spring Court was no exception, so the High Lord, Tamlin, lost much of his powers because of her and crowned herself the High Queen of Prythian.

Lucien Vanserra was sent to her as Tamlin’s emissary, to try to treat for peace between them. She refused, and took his eye as punishment by carving it out with her own fingernail then scarred his face. She sent him back so bloody that Tamlin vomited when he saw his friend.

After that, she hosted a masquerade Under the Mountain for herself. A party, she said – to make amends for what she’d done to Lucien, and a masquerade so he didn’t have to reveal the horrible scarring on his face. The entire Spring Court was to attend, even the servants, and to wear masks – to honor Tamlin’s shape-shifting powers, she said.

When the entire Spring Court was assembled, Amarantha claimed that peace could be had – if Tamlin joined her as her lover and consort. But when she tried to touch him, he refused to let her near. Not after what she’d done to Lucien. He said that he would sooner take a human to his bed, sooner marry a human, than ever touch her. She might have let it go, had he not then said that her own sister had preferred a human’s company to hers, that her own sister had chosen Jurian over her.

As a punishment to Tamlin for not agreeing to be her lover, Amarantha cursed the entire Court to wear the masks they wore to the masquerade forever and as extra punishment for having said that not even her sister loved her, and that she had preferred a human over her, Amarantha cursed him saying that he had forty-nine years to find a human who hated the Fae with all her heart and who still loved him.

The faerie she killed had to be one of his men, sent across the Wall by him. The girl could only be brought here to be courted if she killed one of his men in an unprovoked attack – killed him for hatred alone, just as Jurian had done to Clythia. So he could understand her sister’s pain.

It was all a cruel joke, a clever punishment, to Amarantha. But the spell on Tamlin could only be broken if the human girl did just that before the forty-nine years were over – if that girl said to his face that she loved him, and meant it with her entire heart. Amarantha knew humans were preoccupied with beauty, and thus bound the masks to all the Spring faeries' faces, to his face, so it would be more difficult to find a girl willing to look beyond the mask, beyond his faerie nature, and to the soul beneath. Then she bound them so they couldn’t say a word about the curse. Not a single word. She even turned his heart into stone.

It is in this Court that the story centers in A Court of Thorns and Roses and it was Feyre Archeron who freed Tamlin and the Spring Court from the curse. Then Tamlin killed Amarantha thus freeing the other Courts.

At the end of A Court of Mist and Fury the Spring Court becomes an ally of Hybern due to High Priestess Ianthe's influence on Tamlin. The High Lord allowed the King of Hybern to invade the southern mortal realms through his territory if he succeeded in breaking Feyre's bond with Rhysand.

A Court of Wings and Ruin[]

After Feyre returned to court from her alleged abduction by Rhysand, the High Lord the Night Court, Ianthe, the High Priestess put a Spring Court Sentry to sleep on the night of Summer Solstice and stole the keys to the manor's grounds while he was on guard duty. She then caused parts of the grounds to dry up and thus pretend that the nagas were the culprits and intended to attack the manor, something she later made known to Tamlin, who ignored her and told her that it was surely a gardening problem.

Days later the naga actually attacked the manor and Ianthe killed some of them, so when Tamlin questioned the sentry, he told him that he did not know what had happened because he had never fallen asleep during a watch in his life. Then Feyre made him remember that he had seen Ianthe steal his keys but she denied it and urged Tamlin to give him twenty-one lashes. After a few moments of doubt and Feyre imploring him not to do it, Tamlin whipped him in front of the other sentries, who began to hold a grudge against their High Lord for not taking his versions of events into account and believing Ianthe, who only cared about anyone with status.

The next day, before going on an expedition to the Wall, Feyre stopped by the barracks to see how the sentry was doing, something appreciated by his fellow sentries Bron and Hart.

During the expedition, Feyre used her daemati powers to get inside Ianthe's head and make her smash her hand with a rock repeatedly so that she could not touch anyone else against their will. She then had a confrontation with the Princes of Hybern, Dagdan and Brannagh, where they were killed and then Feyre made the sentries who had accompanied them tell everyone she had to flee because Tamlin and Ianthe had done nothing to stop them, so the court stirred up and rumors of rebellion spread everywhere.

Half of the citizens refused to appear at the next Tithe and many were thinking of moving to other courts.

Finally due to the instability caused by Feyre, Hybern invaded the court without resistance.
