History[]

Rhysand's father lived within the Night Court of Prythian and held the title of High Lord. One day when he was 900 years old, he winnowed into an Illyrian war-camp and saw an eighteen-year-old female whose wings were about to be cut. The mating bond between both of them clicked into place and Rhysand's father immediately made her his bride the same evening. He also made sure that his mate's wings were not cut and allowed her to fly whenever and wherever she wished. Rhysand's father may have cared for Rhysand's mother, but did not love her.

His wife later became pregnant and gave birth to a half-High-Fae, half-Illyrian whom they named Rhysand and later to a daughter with the same characteristics.

When his son was old enough to begin his training, he allowed his wife to take him to an Illyrian camp to train.

During the War, he and the Night Court fought on the side of the humans.

When Rhysand became older, he befriended Tamlin, the son of the High Lord of the Spring Court. Rhysand revealed information about his mother and sister to Tamlin who relayed this information to his father and brothers. They (including Tamlin) traveled to the Illyrian wilderness and murdered both his wife and daughter.

Rhysand's father learned of his wife's and daughter's deaths, and immediately traveled to the Spring Court with Rhysand to avenge them. He killed Tamlin's father, brothers, and mother. He then walked to Tamlin's room with the aim of killing him. Rhysand attempted to stop him, but was interrupted by Tamlin who kills Rhysand's father after discovering the bloodshed that occurred in the hallway.

Rhysand succeeded him as High Lord shortly after.

Personality[]

Rhysand's father was cold and calculating. He had been trained since birth to be vicious. He is constantly called a prick by Cassian, Rhysand, and Azriel.

During the War, he saw that his son had not only started to rival him for power, but had allied himself with perhaps the two deadliest Illyrians in history. He got it into his head that if they were given a legion in the War, they might very well turn it against him when they returned.

Trivia[]

  • Rhysand's father was nine hundred years old when he met and married Rhysand's mother, who was eighteen.[1]
