Miryam's mother lived in the Black Land, a faerie empire ruled by a ruthless queen. Due to being human, she was forced into slavery.
She was a victim of rape by a High Fae man and later gave birth to Miryam. Due to Miryam's mother being mortal, her daughter was also forced into slavery. The Black Land ignored the fact that Miryam had Fae heritage and treated her like a mortal slave.
