Miryam's father lived in the Black Land, a faerie empire ruled by a ruthless queen. This empire was home to numerous mortal slaves.
He sexually abused and raped a mortal woman, who soon gave birth to Miryam, a half-High Fae and half-mortal girl. Due to her split heritage, she was deemed human and therefore was immediately made a slave, like her mother.
