Meallan is a pegasus owned by Helion, the High Lord of the Day Court, and his prized stallion.

History

Meallan lives in the pens located in the highest tower of the Day Court Palace with his mate. Around 300 years before the events of the series, Meallan produced an off-spring with his mate, a male foal that died shortly after birth due to an incurable illness. They hadn't had any more offspring ever since.

When Amarantha burned the Day Court Libraries, she also slaughtered many pegasuses that Helion had in the pen of the palace. Meallan, his mate, along with 12 other pegasus were the only survivors due to having been set free, and managed to fly to safety before Amarantha's cronies could manage to get to them.

A Court of Silver Flames

Helion arrives at the Hewn City for his reunion with the Inner Circle riding Meallan, although initially, he had wanted to make a great entrance by arriving in a golden chariot led by four snow-white horses with manes of golden fire, but Rhysand had forbidden it and had only allowed him to winnow in or not come at all. Meallan was Helion's idea of compromise.

When Rhysand, Feyre, Azriel, and Cassian see the horse they can't help but admire its beauty. After Helion unmounts, he lets out a whistle, and Meallan gracefully pivots, flapping his wings to leap back into the skies and wait for his master elsewhere.

Helion offers to take Feyre on a ride, but since she is pregnant she declines the offer.

Appearance

Meallan is a magnificent muscular pegasus with a black coat and jet-black wings, so black that myth claims he had flown so high the sun had scorched him black.

Personality

Meallan is proud and haughty, and only half-tamed.
