Feyre Archeron has sexual encounters with Isaac Hale in a barn of her village, he drinks the brew because she can not afford it financially. This shows that the brew can be ingested by men and women alike.

After Feyre and Rhysand have both accepted their mating bond and the mating took place, she decides to start taking the tonic because they don't want to risk her getting pregnant with the imminent war with Hybern at their doorstep.
A Court of Frost and Starlight[]
Rhysand is taking the contraceptive tonic to prevent Feyre from getting pregnant but stops taking it when they both decide to start trying to conceive a child since the war has ended.
A Court of Silver Flames[]
It is revealed that when Nesta Archeron decides she wants to become sexually active she obtains a monthly contraceptive tea from her local apothecary before her first time.
After Nesta makes a deal with the Cauldron to give back her power in exchange for saving Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx, she changes herself to have an Illyrian anatomy so she can bear winged children with her mate Cassian, but when Cassian asks her if she is ready for a baby she says that she is not ready yet so she will continue drinking her contraceptive tea for the time being.
Trivia[]
- It is never mentioned but it is somewhat obvious that Feyre was ingesting the tonic while she was with Tamlin due to the fact that she never got pregnant despite having unprotected sex.
- This tonic also appears in Sarah J. Maas's other book series, Throne of Glass.
