Hello community, This is an announcement to let you know that so-called "officially licensed" pieces have been removed from the wiki and their uploads are no longer considered official, the reasoning is:
At first, the pieces were not many and were mostly canon, but now Sarah is licensing basically whatever, even pieces that contain ships that are not yet canon, which takes me to the second point,
There have been complaints because of these officially licensed images, mainly because Sarah allowed licensing of Gwynriel and Elriel fanart, and the scenes depicted aren't canon leading to ship wars. Other complaints have been because they consider only Charlie Bowater and CJ Merwild as truly official as these pieces were commissioned by Sarah herself as opposed to licensed after creation by various artists, and Charlie and CJ's art has appeared in some editions of the books. She also allowed licensing of some stickers with crests of the Courts that aren't canon.
I saw a discussion of this on Facebook that these arts are although approved by her, it was not made in collaboration with her, she just received pay for giving permission to sell if that makes sense. Some are old fanart pieces that artists are paying to be licensed and thus sold legally.
It's becoming the same reason why fanart were temporarily banned on the wiki, people uploading ship pieces that were not canon and putting them on pages, and some art were literal stick figures but since it was still fanart we couldn't say anything and it made the wiki look unprofessional.
This statement has been made by A Touch of Magic Designs which further supports these points, at first it seemed as if Sarah had given approval to these pieces directly when she only gave the approval for the sale and use of the character in these arts not how they are depicted, their looks of actions, they have cleared up the situation saying: "The art depicted on the products listed for sale is wholly original to me and has been approved by Sarah J. Maas for use on the products. Notwithstanding such approval, Sarah J. Maas has not collaborated with me in any way in the creation of the art, and the traits of any characters depicted in the art is in no way based on any foreknowledge by me of the traits of any characters in future books by Sarah J. Maas." Source.
